Time Off to Vote

Residents are reminded that if eligible to vote they are entitled to 4 consecutive hours off (time not at work) during the voting period of 8 am – 8 pm on Tuesday May 14th, 2013.

For example if you are eligible to vote and start work at 7 am, regardless of the scheduled end of your shift you are entitled to leave at 4 pm. If however you are on call until 8 am and leave the hospital post call at noon, you would not be eligible for additional time off, as you have 4 consecutive non-working hours during the voting period.

The exception to this rule is if you are in a remote location that is too far from your voting location that is unreasonable to expect that you would be able to travel there within a 4 hour period.
