Happy Wellbeing Day

There were many great entries to this year's contest. The tips below hightlight the sentiment and goals of Wellbeing Day:

"I garden. The reminder that I can have an area of expertise, a topic I can read about, skills I can hone outside of medicine, reminds me of the world beyond. It brings me joy and also allows me to connect with colleagues and patients by discussing growing potatoes in straw or how to maximize a small vegetable plot. And after the long hours I work I literally come home to a garden that has evolved in my absence." — Dr. Gail Robson

"Make exercise fun and accessible!

Buy a podometer and encourage everyone on your team to wear one. Make it a contest to see who gets the highest number of steps on call!

(Med student, r1, seniors?)

(On top of encouraging exercise despite long hours, it builds a team spirit. You'll see, everyone will start taking the stairs!)" — Dr. Marie Pierre Dallaire

"I have a few to offer:
Eat something every 3 hours. We all need to refuel.
Take lunch outside, when possible.
"Forget" your phone, and enjoy being interruption-free.
Have a transitional ritual on the way home, to disconnect from work." — Dr. Rob Clements

"At the end of a long shift, when work is particularly overwhelming I need at least a 20 minute jog. Although sometimes it seems like I cannot spare the time, I am in such a better mind-frame after that I never regret it. It also leads to a better night's sleep and being well-rested for the next day." — Dr. Susanna Zachara-Szczakowski

"Some of my fav postcall wake up activities include a massage (our coverage is great!), a walk in the park (fresh air is always a good idea), and taking a loved one out for dinner (30hrs away is hard for them too and a good chance to reconnect)" — Dr. Chad Van Tongeren
