Nanaimo
Nanaimo is on the East coast of Vancouver Island. Cedar is a small town just 8 kilometers Southeast of Nanaimo. It is a quick drive on the Island Highway for day trips and outings. A resident recommended hike is Cable Bay.

Transit
- Nanaimo Airports – There are 3 airports, Nanaimo Airport (YCD), which connects to Vancouver (YVR), Nanaimo Harbour Water Airport, which connects to Vancouver harbour and Vancouver Airport (YVR South Terminal), and Nanaimo/Long Lake Water Airport, which is used for private jet purposes.
- BC Ferries – There are 3 terminals: the terminal at Departure Bay services Horseshoe Bay, the terminal at Duke Point services Tsawwassen, the terminal in downtown services Gabriola Island.
- Buses – Funded by the Regional Transportation Services Department and BC Transit.
When traveling via bus, there are several fare options.
- Employer Passes – some of the hospitals have employer passes that you can join but they require a minimum one-year commitment.
- Cash Fares – $2.50 per ticket. Transfers are free, but you must notify the bus driver when you pay your fare.
- Sheet of 10 tickets – The fare for this is $22.50 for adults.
- DayPASS – The DayPASS can be used an unlimited number of times a day. It is valid region-wide and costs $6.25 for adults.
- Monthly Pass – The Monthly Pass can b used an unlimited number of times a month. It is valid region-wide and costs $67.50 for adults.
