Do I need disability insurance?

The PAR-BC 2010-2014 Collective Agreement mandates that residents must purchase their own Long Term Disability (LTD) plan as of January 1, 2013. LTD will no longer be provided by the Employer after this date, however existing claims and disabilities taking place prior to this date will continue to be covered under the Employer paid plan.

 

We have negotiated with two separate companies to provide PAR-BC members with comprehensive plans that we feel provides residents with suitable coverage during residency and after graduation. You may purchase coverage from other providers, however LTD coverage is mandatory for all residents.

 

BCMA through Sun Life Financial, and RBC through Haslett Financial, are willing to offer a special discount and guaranteed coverage for residents during their residency and after graduation without any medical underwriting. Information on the available packages from these companies is in the Member's Section, but residents may select any provider for their coverage.
