Structure

PAR-BC Structure

Members
All residents in British Columbia funded by the Ministry of Health are automatically members of PAR-BC for the duration of their program/funding. They are subject to the negotiated collective agreement, constitution and by-laws. The membership elects their program representatives and Board of Directors.

Committees
PAR-BC has several internal committees which welcome resident participation. These committees provide direction to PAR-BC on specific issue areas, including communications, finance, governance and advocacy.

There are also several external committees that provide opportunities for resident representation. These include UBC, CAIR, and BCMA.

Council of Program Representatives
The Council of Program Representatives liaises between the membership and the Board of Directors by performing the function of shop stewards within their program. Each program has its own shop steward who is responsible for presenting to the Board of Directors at a minimum of annually to inform them of any issues and concerns. Program Representatives may hold the position for multiple years if elected. They support the board by connecting them to the broader membership, working on committees and nominating and encouraging candidates to join the Board of Directors.

Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is elected annually by the membership and is subject to the Constitution and By-laws. There are five executive positions and seven members-at-large. A representative from the Medical Undergraduate Society from the University of British Columbia also sits on the board as a non-voting member. The Board provides direction to the organization chair various committees relating to resident interests and organizational needs.
